Hello imu-rians^^

A good day to all IMU-rians =)
We're proud to announce that the day of the ball ticket sales is coming soon!!

Ticket sales will begin from the 18th February 2009 till April 2009!
The tickets are priced at RM120/ticket (Why is this so? Click here)
We will be setting up a booth in the atrium on this duration, as well as going to batches to promote the sales.

Please note: Ticket sales will be commencing every Tuesday and Thursday of the week^^ On other periods, please do not hesitate to contact anyone of our committee members^^

You can choose the purchase the tickets singly or purchase by a table of 8. (The seating allocated is 8 person per table, not 10 persons. The table is of a horse-shoe shape [U shape] as they need to serve the western set meals individually and to ensure that no one's back will face the stage).

Parties who purchase by a table of 8 will get a special privilege of:
- Selecting their table mates ( meaning you'll get to enjoy the company of your own friends throughout the ball =)
- Selecting the location of the table (a layout of the hall will be presented only to those who buy by tables.)

Those who purchase the tickets individually,
- if you're the first 16 people, you will get to choose your table
- if you're the 17th person and thereafter, you will NOT be able to choose your table, nor your table mates. Table arrangements will be done randomly.

Reminder: The table is allocated for 8 persons, not 10 =)

And upon purchase, you will have to specify:

- Your choice of main course (fish, lamb, chicken, or vegetarian food)
- Whether you will be need us to provide you transportation to the venue (bear in mind, we will only provided buses to those who need it =)

Other than that, we'll be taking down orders for message dedications.
These messages will be printed on the ball's booklet, and are only priced at an affordable price!
So, if you have a message to send to your friends or even your crush or loved one, do grab this opportunity to do so =)

Remember the jacket sales mentioned previously?
We'll be taking down orders for the jackets during the ticket sale booth as well =)

Here's an update of IMU Ball related activities which will be carried out from now till April 2009 =)

1. Decentralization Project
Duration:
January to March

Details :
This project was mentioned in the previous post, and as a gentle reminder, we're not forcing everyone to sell the booklets. We're only hoping for you all to do so, as an effort to help us raise the necessary funds to make this ball a success =)

Note:
1. We will still be donating 20% of our earnings to Rumah Jaireh regardless whether we hit our target sales or not. However, if we manage to sell all our notebooks, we will be able to donate RM 4500 to Rumah Jaireh!

2. We're not forcing anyone to sell the notebooks =) We're just hoping that everyone could take part in the sales, as IMU Ball is an event for ALL IMU students. We're trying to make this event a grand and successful event, thus we need extra hands to help =)

3. We're not using the name of charity for the sales. This event is mainly to raise funds for the ball, but we're allocating 20% of the earnings to Rumah Jaireh as we feel that it's the right thing to do =)


2. Jacket Sales
Duration:
End of February till March

Details:
We have designed the first ever IMU jacket for IMU students! We will be going around from batch to batch to promote its sales, so do not miss out the chance to own this "limited edition" IMU jacket!

3. Ball Ticket Sales
Duration:
February till April

Details:
The tickets are priced at RM120/ticket. We will be setting up a booth in the atrium on this duration, as well as going to batches to promote the sales. Do note that the sales will be conducted on a first come first serve basis.

p.s: Here's a map to Marriott Putrajaya, as reference to those who are driving there. And we're very happy to inform you all that the hotel will be charging a flat rate for us, compared to the usual per hour rate.

p.s: We have also a special rate for rooms, just in case you're planning to chill and relax in the hotel after the ball =) A discounted rate of RM175++ (original price: RM 400++)will be open to interested parties, but do let us know before hand.

4. IMU's Got Talent!
Duration:
Throughout the month of March

Details:
If you've watched the American version of this reality tv show, you would know that this a competition, where anyone, with any talent, can participate. You can sing, you can dance, you can perform magic tricks, you can do ANYTHING!

Plus side to this is, if you or your group is the winner, you'll get FREE tickets to the ball^^ In addition to that, you could also win amazing prizes from Japanese buffet restaurants!!!So unleash your talents, and you could be the FIRST winner of IMU's Got Talent!!!


5. Prom King and Prom Queen Nominees
Duration:
End of March till Mid-April

Details:
There is always a Prom King and Prom Queen for every ball. So we will be opening the registration of nominess around March. Each batch will need to nominate one couple (or more) to participate in this annual contest, where the nominees will undergo a set of challenges. Through this, we will be selecting our ultimate Prom King and Queen!

And obviously, there will be an attractive prize to be won! So get your brain cells moving and start selecting your best couple to join, or you can start training and grooming yourself to be one ;p

We, the IMU Ball 2009 committee, will be starting on our Decentralization Project this month.

Q: What is this project about?
A: The project is simple, each student in IMU will be given 5 IMU notebooks to be sold to members of the public. Each notebook is to be sold at a price of RM 3, and 20% of the earnings from this project will be donated to the Rumah Jaireh.


Q: What is Rumah Jaireh?
A: RUMAH JAIREH was set up in Batu Arang on the 7th of June 2005.
This home caters to the following needs:-

1) HIV+ women, with or without children, rendered homeless or rejected.

2) HIV+ children made homeless or rejected.

3) Sex workers and female drug addicts.

4) Women and children with special needs who cannot be taken in
by other homes or institutions, for some reason or other.

In order to support their efforts, we hope to raise funds for them =) If you're interested to know more about the home, click here.


Q: So where does the other 80% goes?
A: The remainder of the earnings shall be used to support the expenses incurred by the ball such as:
- PA system
- Lighting
- Event Company fees
- Performers' Fees
- Pre-ball cocktail drinks
- Bus transportation
- Decoration
-Miscellaneous (Ball ticket, Ball booklet, etc)


Q: Why is there a need for this project?
A: Again, as mentioned above, the expenses for the ball is a large amount. Along with this post is a full detail of what expenses that will be used for the ball.
As this ball is an IMU event, organised by IMU students FOR IMU students, we believe that every student of IMU should do their part in making the event a success.


*Including services from the event company (PA, lightings, etc), props for performances, professional emcee fee etc.
** Including scheduled transport to the hotel, stationery, publicity, tickets for IMU's Got Talent Champion, meals for backstage crew, performers, etc. To be fundraised through other events.

Total = RM 87, 341.50

Number of students paying = 597
Ticket Price = RM 87, 341.50/ 597 = RM 146.30
Target Ticket Price = RM 120.00

Thus, the subsidy per ticket = RM 146.30 - RM 120.00 = RM 26.30

Total subsidy = RM 26.50 x 597 = RM 15, 701.50
(which is a BIG amount!)

Thus, we need your help~
Total amount for fundraising/sponsors = RM 21, 810.00

Hi IMU-rians!!!

We, the IMU Ball 2009 committee, are proud to announce the following!

Q: Why is the ticket price more expensive compared to the previous ball?
A: There are several reasons for this:

1. Our menu for the ball is going to be western food (which is more expensive than the usual chinese menu). Here's the menu once again:


2. Our venue is JW Marriott, Putrajaya which is a 5-star hotel. The previous ball wasn't held in a 5-star hotel thus it was cheaper.

3. We have to cover other expenses such as:

- the drink expenses for the cocktail party (before the ball begins officially),

- decoration

- emcee, lighting, PA, booklet, tickets, bus fees (free bus services for ticket holders)

(the full details of our expenses will be revealed end of this week)

In short, we ensure you that the RM 120 paid for the ball ticket will be worth every single cent =)


Q: Why Marriott Putrajaya?
A: We finalized to have the ball in Marriott Putrajaya because:

1. It's a 5-star hotel.

2. We didn't choose JW Marriott, KL or any other hotels in Kuala Lumpur because:

a) After meetings with several hotels, Marriott Putrajaya gave us the best deal.

- A larger ballroom which can accommodate up to 600 students

- Sufficient space for us to set up a dance floor! (Yes, we are going have a dance floor! So get ready for a night of entertainment!)

- A cheaper menu compared to other hotels. (JW Marriott KL only gave us a 3-course meal for the same price, while Marriott Putrajaya gave us a 5-course meal)

b) Traffic in the city area is usually congested (which may get annoying especially to those who are driving there.) And just in case you can't manage to find transportation to Putrajaya, fret not! We will be providing free transportation to the venue, in the form of buses!


Q: When can we get the tickets?
A: Be patient, we know you're excited! The tickets will only be on sale somewhere in February and March, so do grab them then!!!


Q: What's the dress code?
A: Officially it's something similar to "Red Carpet" but we accept anything, as long as the girls look pretty and the guys look dashing!!

p/s: We'll be sending out scouts on the day itself to identify the best dressed female and male of the night! So dress up! Who know it could be you on stage receiving a prize!
